Learning to cycle

“Style is not lusting after someone because they’re cool
Style is loving yourself ’til everyone else does too” ~ Style by Prince

Off we go. I’ve been meaning to get all this out of my system for a while now. I love cycling and elegant design. I’m watching with a mix of enthusiastic support and slack-jawed horror as the population of the UK rediscover cycling.

But surely more people on two wheels can only be a good thing, right? Well, it’s a qualified yes from me. It all depends on what your vision for cycling is. What the Pashley riding princess and the armour-plated down-hiller want aren’t nessarily the same: cycling’s a broad church.

I want to explore the etiquette, politics and most importantly style of cycling. Imagine Paul Smith, Alain de Botton and Roger de Vlaeminck sat down to discuss cycling style; then it was all written down.

If you’re looking for assessments of the latest Ultegra groupset or pro team transfers then look elsewhere. If you want unsubstantiated, self-opinionated rants on the daftness and excitement of cycling culture then stay tuned.
